Our Environment
Thursday, July 16, 2009
Hi everyone,

We have just completed the topic on "Man & His Environment". We know that the development of science and technology affects our environment. Man creates materials to meet the technological needs of society. However, Man's activities have made impact (both positive and negative) on our environment.

What are some of these positive and negative impact on our environment? Can we do something to help save our environment? Please write in detail.

Looking forward to reading your posts...

SA1 Oral Exam
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Hi everyone,

So all of you have just completed your oral exams. I would like to hear from you what you did or said for your oral exam and how you felt about the whole thing.

From an examiner's point of view, I find that everyone can read very well, but the pupils tend to rush when they read. (Maybe they were feeling nervous.) Most pupils could also talk about the pictures given to them and describe what they saw. However, some pupils did not give their opinions or views about the incidents in the pictures. I enjoyed talking to some pupils during the conversation, but most of them did not look me in the eye when they were talking to me :(

Overall, I was quite impressed with the pupils although I feel that there is still room for improvement.

Can't wait to hear what you have to say....

Learning Journey to Singapore History Museum
Monday, April 6, 2009
The Singapore History Museum is actually part of the National Museum of Singapore. It is located at Fort Canning Road.

It was my first visit to this new National Museum. As I entered the building, I could sense that I would be getting a lot of information and knowledge about Singapore's past. We were all gathered at the entrance of the Singapore History Gallery. The guide explained to us on the use of The Companion, a gadget which would help us through the exhibits in the gallery. Everyone tested to see if the earphones and the Companion were in good working condition.

When everyone was ready, we entered the History gallery which was about two floors down and around a very winding path. I entered the first number on my Companion and listened to the story about the Stone. We could choose the path we wanted to take and press the numbers indicated on the floors into our Companion. I was really amazed by the exhibits, photographs and artefacts that were on display. The information given by the Companion was very detailed and comprehensive.

The story that struck me most was the one about the Girl Soldiers and how this lady recounted her experience as a girl soldier. This story, I thought, was something so interesting and valuable that I could not have gotten from the Social Studies textbook.

I also stood in awe when I came to the part of the gallery where black and white footages of Singapore's people and history were projected on the walls.

We also visited the Singapore Living Galleries - Food, Wayang and Fashion to learn more about what these items were like in the past and how they have transformed with the times.

All in all, I feel that the National Museum of Singapore, especially the Singapore History Gallery is the place to visit to really learn about Singapore's past, way beyond what the textbook can offer you.

Healthy Eating
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Hi everyone,

So did all of you play your part on Earth Hour day last Saturday? I did and spent slightly more than an hour in darkness... well, not totally in darkness as my daughter was too afraid of the dark. We acctually had the TV on BUT we were watching National Geographic Channel which, in support of Earth Hour Day, was not broadcasting any programmes! They were only showing some slides that gave VERY good suggestions (besides just turning off electrical appliances when not in use) on how we can help save the Earth.

Anyway, this week we are going to write about Healthy Eating.

We have to eat in order to have the energy to perform our daily tasks and to enjoy the many beautiful things in this world. However, do we really know what to eat so that we can be healthy? Many diseases are associated with unhealthy eating. Hence, it is important to know what to eat so that we will not be victims of such diseases.

1. What do you have to eat in order to be healthy?
2. What are some of the unhealthy food adults and children like to eat?
3. Why is important to eat healthily?
4. What are some of the diseases associated with eating unhealthy food?
5. What are the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables?
6. Do you like to eat fruits and vegetables? Why?
7. Do you support the school's campaign in encouraging pupils to eat more fruits and vegetables? Why?
8. What activities can you suggest to encourage children to eat more vegetables and fruits?

Looking forward to you posts... :)
